Our new Bavarian restaurant, “Ilsa’s Kitchen”, is now open and running. Several guests have already become regulars. A Grand Opening is planned for the end of February.
UPDATE! I have left Ilsa’s Kitchen and joined an exciting new venture: The Bavarian Bistro

Achim, I am so thrilled for you! The place looks fabulous and you bet your bottom dollar, should we be in the area, we will be dropping in for some bratwurst and kraut.
Wishing you every continued success!
Being German, I have visited many a “German” restaurant in the US.
Ilsa’s Kitchen by far outdoes anything I’ve tried so far.
It beats all the places I’ve tried in Fredericksburg.
I shall be back, again and again!!!
Thank you, Achim, for an absolutely breathtaking experience.
Servus!
Adi
Thank you so much, Julie. It would be wonderful to welcome you and hubby at the restaurant. Hopefully soon…
Adi, it was fantastic to speak some Bavarian dialect with you, tonight. You are a fun guy and I hope to talk with you again very soon! Thanks so much for your kind words. –Achim
We at for the first time on April 17..schnitzel…fabulous. Came back on 4/25….schnitzel again….was overcooked….someone took the eye off the ball…both my husband’s and my schnitzel was overcooked…still had good taste but a shame….need to keep your eye on the food..whoever was cooking at 12 noon..next time we will send it back…
we live in spicewood, and we are so happy for a good german restaurant….no need to go to Fredericksburg any longer….
Sorry for the bad schnitzel experience, Karen and Andy. Unfortunately, there’s nothing I can do about it, anymore. I’ve left “Ilsa’s” on April 23 to pursue a new venture in Austin. I hope your next visit to Ilsa’s will be better! (Don’t accept any over-cooked food. They’ll be glad to replace it for you.)
We made reservations for Mother’s Day and had high hopes for some great German food. We’ve lived in Germany and haven’t found anything in the area that measures up to what we’ve enjoyed in other areas. Sadly, service was slow and the food did not measure up. I had the stuffed cabbage, sauerkraut and goulash soup. The stuffed cabbage was fairly tasteless although the sauce was good. The sauerkraut did not taste like sauerkraut and the goulash soup was vegetable beef. It had nice flavor, but it was NOT goulash soup like I’ve had in Germany. My husband had the schnitzel and he said it was ok, but not great. I see that you’re not there any longer, but hopefully you can pass this along.
I’m sorry to hear about your not-so-good experience, Lori. But I recommend that you contact the owners with your concerns, either by phone or by email through their website. I am now fully focused on getting my Bavarian Bistro opened, hopefully around May 15th. http://bavarianbistro.com
Unfortunately, I have no more influence over Ilsa’s kitchen operations.
Chef, can you update us on the status of the Bavarian Bistro? I’m sure many Austin gourmets can’t wait for their schnitzel fix…
